Netflix Targets 1,000 Jobs in Largest Workforce Reduction to Date

Co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters have confirmed a six percent reduction in Netflix’s total headcount, impacting approximately 1,000 employees. This move marks the streamer’s most significant round of staff cuts to date, following smaller downsizing efforts in 2022 as the company recalibrates its internal resource allocation.

The layoffs primarily target personnel within the product, technology, human resources, and legal divisions. In an internal memo obtained by Variety, leadership framed the decision as a necessity to maintain operational discipline while balancing an ambitious global entertainment strategy. The company intends to maintain aggressive investment in high-impact growth sectors despite the current contraction.

This restructuring arrives alongside strong financial indicators for the streaming giant. Netflix reported revenue reaching $45.2 billion in 2025, with net income climbing to $11 billion from a base of 325 million subscribers. Furthermore, the firm's advertising business has gained momentum, doubling its revenue to $1.5 billion between 2024 and 2025. The $7.99 per month ad-supported tier remains a core driver of this performance, accounting for over 9.4 million subscribers as of May 2025.
