The system, launched August 19, aims to lower the technical barrier for first-time organizers and candidates who previously had to master rigid, manual search parameters. By describing a target audience—such as recent donors or specific activist groups—users receive a generated filter set that they can audit, adjust, or execute immediately. This design ensures that human oversight remains the final step before any data is pulled.
NGP VAN Deploys AI-Powered Search to Streamline Campaign Outreach
Campaign staff can now bypass complex database filters by using plain-language prompts to identify target supporters. NGP VAN’s new Navigator tool, integrated directly into the company’s existing Create a List platform, translates natural-language descriptions into precise search queries for donors, volunteers, and activists within the progressive ecosystem.

At launch, Navigator supports eight common search categories, including contribution histories, address data, and activist codes. NGP VAN plans to expand the AI assistant’s functionality in the coming months to include bulk data uploads and the analysis of canvassing notes. According to General Manager Chelsea Peterson Thompson, the focus is on practical utility rather than symbolic AI integration, with the ultimate goal of saving campaign hours and improving voter engagement. Users retain full control over the process, as the tool functions as an optional starting point that does not disrupt previously saved searches or manual workflows.
