Joby Aviation to Acquire Defense Contractor Resonant Sciences
Joby Aviation is set to acquire Dayton-based Resonant Sciences, a move that will transform the aerospace firm into Joby’s dedicated defense division. The transaction, backed by Cerberus Capital Management, marks a significant consolidation of advanced radar and communications technology expertise within the evolving urban air mobility sector.
Michael Palmer, a senior managing director at Cerberus, noted that the partnership focused on scaling operational capacity to meet the demands of government programs. Under the terms of the agreement, Resonant will retain its name and continue its existing work on autonomous systems and electronic countermeasures. J. Micah North, Resonant’s CEO, intends to leverage Joby’s resources to maintain the company’s agility while expanding its footprint in defense contracting. The acquisition is expected to finalize in the first half of 2027, pending regulatory approval.
