The project marks a significant shift in how the energy industry manages produced water, transitioning from disposal to resource recovery. Under the terms of the deal, ISE Chemicals will handle the design, construction, and operation of extraction and refining facilities, while Select provides the necessary water sourcing, transportation, and pretreatment through its extensive network. Select will earn a royalty payment for its role in the collaboration.
Select Water Solutions and ISE Chemicals Partner for U.S. Iodine Recovery
Select Water Solutions has entered a definitive agreement with ISE Chemicals Corporation to develop large-scale iodine extraction facilities across Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. By leveraging existing oilfield infrastructure to process produced water, the companies aim to establish a new, domestic supply chain for the critical industrial material.

Operations are scheduled to begin with the commissioning of an initial facility in the Permian Basin in 2027. The partners have set a production target of approximately 3,000 tonnes of iodine per year by the end of 2030. This initiative aligns with Select’s broader strategy to extract additional value from its water infrastructure assets as demand for sustainable resource management rises. ISE Chemicals, which brings nearly a century of expertise in iodine extraction from brine, views the partnership as a vital opportunity to bolster domestic production capacity for medical, electronic, and industrial applications.
