The results, based on feedback from 78,514 owners of 2026 model-year vehicles, measure performance through problems reported per 100 vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership. Hyundai Secures Top JD Power Initial Quality Rankings for 2026
Three Hyundai models have topped their respective segments in the J.D. Power 2026 U.S. Initial Quality Study, marking a significant win for the manufacturer. The Santa Cruz, Venue, and Sonata each claimed the number-one spot, with the Santa Cruz pickup earning the top position for the third consecutive year.
Barry Ratzlaff, chief customer officer for Hyundai Motor North America, attributed the achievement to cross-departmental collaboration and a consistent focus on vehicle reliability from the development phase to customer delivery. While the automotive industry saw a broad improvement in quality across nine of the 10 categories evaluated by J.D. Power, the study noted that infotainment systems—specifically smartphone integration like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto—remain the primary source of reported technical friction for consumers.
