Figma integrates AI motion and code tools into design canvas

Designers can now generate animations and custom shader effects using natural language prompts following a major overhaul announced at Figma’s Config conference. The update transforms the platform from a static layout tool into a development-ready environment where AI agents handle repetitive tasks directly within the workspace.

The platform’s new motion graphics capabilities allow users to build transitions and 3D transforms by describing them to a chatbot. These animations are connected to existing design systems and are fully code-backed, enabling teams to move from concept to production-ready assets without switching software. Complementing this, new shader tools powered by WebGPU introduce advanced visual treatments like pixelation and custom blurs directly onto the canvas.

Figma is also bridging the gap between design and development with its new code layers. Developers can now clone repositories and manipulate code within the Figma Design interface, syncing changes back to their projects in real-time. Additionally, the introduction of Figma Weave workflows brings over 20 integrated tools to the platform, designed to simplify complex AI-driven tasks and ensure visual consistency across large-scale team projects.
