The program targets 501(c)(3) nonprofits, K-12 public schools, and higher education institutions located within the utility’s Illinois service territory. While the foundation covers the cost of the filling stations, selected recipients are responsible for all installation expenses. This effort is part of a broader national strategy to encourage sustainable hydration habits and environmental stewardship in public spaces.
Illinois American Water Opens 2026 Grants for Public Hydration Stations
To mark National Hydration Day, the American Water Charitable Foundation and Illinois American Water have opened applications for the 2026 Hydration Station Grant Program. The initiative provides funding for reusable water bottle filling stations at public facilities, aiming to reduce plastic waste and promote access to municipal tap water.

Rebecca Losli, President of Illinois American Water, noted that the program reinforces the company's commitment to delivering reliable water access. Last year, the initiative distributed over $40,000 across twelve different organizations. Interested parties have until September 4, 2026, to submit their applications through the company’s official website.
