Pizza Hut and Anchor Packaging Win Award for Recyclable Wing Bowl

A collaborative effort between Pizza Hut and Anchor Packaging has earned the 2026 Association of Plastic Recyclers Recycling Leadership Award. The partnership produced a redesigned wing bowl that prioritizes both thermal performance for delivery orders and increased material recyclability for the foodservice industry.

The new container eliminates carbon black and excess mineral fillers, technical changes that allow the packaging to be processed more effectively in recycling streams. By incorporating post-consumer recycled polypropylene, the design creates a new supply of food-grade material, addressing a long-standing challenge for brands aiming to improve their sustainability footprint. Beyond its environmental impact, the bowl is engineered to improve kitchen workflows. Staff can sauce wings directly inside the container, reducing prep time while allowing customers to shake the bowl to recoat the product upon arrival. This functionality ensures that food quality remains stable during transit, a critical factor as demand for takeout continues to climb. Anchor Packaging, which operates under Georgia-Pacific's Foodservice Solutions platform, led the design phase of the project. Representatives from both companies noted that the award validates their strategy of balancing consumer convenience with structural packaging innovation.
