The partnership, announced June 22, 2026, integrates Ellucian’s reach—spanning 3,000 customers across 50 countries—with the MortarCAPS mission to create a sector-led, non-profit standard. By aligning with MortarCAPS, Ellucian intends to leverage its expertise in cloud and AI to help institutions move away from siloed reporting and toward a more unified data architecture. Jeff Dinski, Ellucian’s Chief Strategy and Corporate Development Officer, noted that the industry is at a point where common standards are the only way to simplify the current technological burden on universities.

For MortarCAPS, the inclusion of a major provider like Ellucian serves as a milestone in scaling the Higher Learning Data Standard beyond its initial regional roots. CEO Charlsey Pearce emphasized that no single entity can resolve the inconsistency of institutional data, necessitating a collaborative approach created by the sector for the sector. The initiative, which traces its origins to 2025 through working groups like CAUDIT and CUCCIO, currently represents over 150 institutions. By adopting these standards, schools aim to reduce the time spent on data maintenance, allowing for a greater focus on skills-based learning and actionable institutional analytics.
