The Illinois Department of Transportation has tapped Toronto-based Quarterhill to deploy and manage a network of traffic monitoring sites across the Chicago metro area. This three-year contract, valued at $2.5 million, aims to bolster the state's data infrastructure for long-term roadway planning, safety initiatives, and traffic flow management.
Quarterhill CEO Chuck Myers noted that the contract reflects the company's broader push to support data-informed transportation systems throughout North America. This expansion into Illinois builds on the company's existing relationship with the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority and follows a series of similar project wins across Indiana, California, New Jersey, and Massachusetts during 2026. The agreement includes an option for annual extensions that could stretch the partnership for up to a decade as transportation demands across the region evolve.
