Ontario Airport Shifts to Electric Logistics with New Zero-Emission Truck

A custom-branded electric truck, manufactured locally in Fontana by ZO Motors USA LLC, has officially joined the Ontario International Airport fleet. The vehicle, unveiled Monday by the Ontario International Airport Authority, marks a shift toward sustainable ground operations, handling everything from facility maintenance to the transport of temperature-sensitive cargo.

The acquisition is fully backed by a grant from San Bernardino County, positioning the airport to trim long-term operating costs. By replacing diesel-powered equipment with electric alternatives, the facility expects to see significant savings in fuel and maintenance expenses while simultaneously cutting greenhouse gas emissions.

Alan D. Wapner, president of the OIAA Board, described the move as a strategic investment that bridges environmental goals with functional efficiency. The new truck complements an existing suite of green initiatives at the airport, which already includes eight electric passenger shuttle buses, the use of reclaimed water for irrigation, and electric-powered systems designed to regulate aircraft cabin temperatures at gates. These efforts reflect a broader push by the airport to modernize its infrastructure, which serves over 7 million passengers annually, through improved waste diversion and the use of recycled materials in runway and taxiway reconstruction.
