Anthropic signs $15 billion compute deal with SpaceX

SpaceX is set to receive $1.25 billion per month from Anthropic for access to its Colossus data centers in Memphis. The agreement, which runs through May 2029, represents a massive $15 billion annual commitment that highlights the intense competition for AI infrastructure in an increasingly crowded market.

The scale of the partnership emerges from SpaceX’s latest S-1 filing, detailing access to both Colossus I and Colossus II training centers. This revenue stream could nearly double the $18.7 billion SpaceX reported for the entirety of 2025. While the deal includes a 90-day termination clause for both parties—a necessity in the volatile AI landscape—it underscores the lengths to which companies like Anthropic will go to secure hardware as local opposition slows traditional data center construction.

Elon Musk noted on X that SpaceX intends to offer similar compute-as-a-service arrangements to other developers. The company has aggressively pivoted its capital allocation toward artificial intelligence, spending $12.7 billion on AI in 2025—roughly 61 percent of its total expenditure. During the first quarter of 2026 alone, SpaceX invested $7.7 billion into its AI division compared to $1 billion for its space operations. Despite heavy initial losses, the move positions SpaceX as a major infrastructure provider while Anthropic pushes toward its first quarterly operating profit, with projected quarterly revenues reaching $10.9 billion.
