Kaine Bayfield: Leading a Hospitality Dynasty Through Evolution

Growing up above the Dee Why Hotel, Kaine Bayfield spent his childhood climbing beer pallets and chatting with customers at the family-run pub. Today, that early immersion in the trade defines his tenure as CEO of Bayfield Hotel Group, where he balances deep-rooted family legacy with rapid digital modernization.

Bayfield’s path to the top was built on more than just proximity. After earning a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Applied Finance from Macquarie University, he cut his teeth in management at the Dee Why Hotel and The Newport Arms. These roles taught him that leadership is rarely static; he learned early on that employees respond to varied management styles, necessitating a constant, respectful adaptation of his own approach. Mentorship played a decisive role, particularly through his father and chef Carlo Campana, who instilled in him a rigorous discipline regarding stock control and operational preparation.

Since stepping into the CEO role in 2025 following a decade as COO, Bayfield has steered the group through a massive shift in industry standards. The company, which now includes the Belrose Hotel, various liquor superstores, and digital platforms, has pivoted from the era of suburban nightclubs toward premium, dining-led experiences. Behind the scenes, this transition has required moving from local newspaper advertising to complex digital ecosystems and cloud-based operations. While the weight of total responsibility is significant, Bayfield maintains his focus by relying on the foundations laid by his family over nearly 50 years.

Innovation remains a priority, with the group currently trialing AI-enabled systems to boost efficiency without eroding the personal service that built their reputation. Despite these technological leaps, Bayfield remains tethered to community service, continuing long-standing partnerships with the Warringah Rugby Club and the Children’s Cancer Institute. For the next generation of leaders, his advice remains grounded in the lessons of his own upbringing: listen, experiment, and trust the instincts developed through experience.
