Airbnb targets first half of 2027 for AI travel agent

Airbnb plans to introduce an AI agent for trip planning and bookings in the first half of 2027, according to its Q3 2026 earnings shareholder letter. The company says the tool will use a travel-focused interface rather than relying on a conventional chatbot.

Airbnb says the agent will combine elements such as maps, photos, comparisons, calendars and itineraries, assembling them in real time around a traveler’s request. Users will be able to explore options, make decisions with their travel companions and take action directly on Airbnb, the company said.

The company argued that matching hosts with guests and already being part of the booking process give it an advantage in building a travel agent. It said current AI agents handle routine tasks such as restaurant reservations and appointment scheduling, but described trip planning as a different challenge.

Co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky had previously said Airbnb planned to launch an agent in 2027. Speaking at the Skift Global Forum, he described its interface as “much richer than a chatbot.” The shareholder letter also called AI “the best thing to ever happen to Airbnb” and said the technology has changed how the company develops products and operates.
