Coolpad Launches Budget Android Phone With Ultra-Wide Display

Design trends from expensive folding devices are bleeding into the budget market, as evidenced by the new Coolpad Cool X Wide. Available for approximately $150, the handset mimics the expansive screen footprint of flagship foldables like the iPhone Duo, yet retains a traditional, non-folding slab architecture.

The Cool X Wide ditches the fragile hinges and high repair costs of premium foldable hardware while offering a similar visual experience. Its 6.38-inch display features a 16:10 aspect ratio, providing a tablet-like feel that deviates from the narrow, elongated screens standard on most entry-level Android devices. The device is currently available for preorder on JD.com, with shipments scheduled to commence on November 8.

Internal specifications reflect the phone’s budget status. It runs on a MediaTek Helio G99 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage in its base configuration. Users can opt for upgrades to 12GB of RAM or 256GB of storage, with prices scaling up to roughly $209. The handset includes a 50-megapixel primary camera and a 4,600mAh battery, shipping with Android 16. While the screen resolution sits at 1,158x720 with a 90Hz refresh rate, the device is limited to 4G connectivity due to processor constraints.
