Telo MT1: The Electric Mini-Truck That Defies Its Size

In San Carlos, California, the Telo MT1 is turning heads by packing the utility of a full-sized pickup into a silhouette reminiscent of a Japanese kei truck. With a cab-over design that places passengers directly over the front axle, the vehicle offers a striking departure from the bloated trucks currently dominating American roads.

Behind the wheel, the MT1 presents a paradox of sensations. The ride is stiff and notably bouncy without a payload in the bed, yet it maneuvers with the nimble precision of a compact car. Co-founder and CEO Jason Marks emphasizes that the low center of gravity, provided by a floor-mounted battery pack, keeps the vehicle stable despite its unconventional proportions. While the interior is surprisingly spacious, the cabin experience is defined by a firm, utilitarian focus suited for urban environments.

Performance metrics tell a different story than the diminutive exterior suggests. During a test drive on the same pavement where Tesla once showcased its original Roadster, the MT1 demonstrated the immediate torque and rapid acceleration characteristic of electric powertrains. Marks claims the final production model will hit 0–60mph in roughly four seconds, balancing the footprint of a small city vehicle with the raw power typically reserved for much larger, heavier machines.
