Used Farm Equipment Values Rise as Inventory Tightens

Rising corn prices during the harvest season have sparked a shift in the used farm equipment market, with auction values for tractors over 100 horsepower climbing nearly 5% over the past year. This uptick marks a period of cautious optimism for dealers navigating broader economic pressures.

Used Farm Equipment Values Rise as Inventory Tightens

TractorHouse Manager Ryan Dolezal notes that the sector is experiencing a jump in activity, signaling moderate progress despite headwinds like fluctuating fuel costs. While the broader market remains sensitive to external variables, the trend suggests a stabilizing environment heading into 2027. The sector’s recovery is underpinned by a consistent tightening of available supply, as inventory levels for high-horsepower tractors have now trended downward for 16 consecutive months.

This contraction in supply is visible across several machinery categories. Used combine harvester inventory dipped 9.51% year over year in September, while heavy-duty truck and semi-trailer markets face even sharper declines in availability. As supply chains tighten, the Sandhills Equipment Value Index (EVI) reflects a divergence between asking prices and realized auction values, providing a key gauge for stakeholders looking to maximize returns in a shifting landscape.
