Volunteers Mark International Day of Peace with North American Service

From the streets of Vancouver to the riverfronts of Tampa, members of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification spent September 21 executing community service projects. The initiative, held in honor of Dr. Hak Ja Han, focused on local beautification and humanitarian aid to promote a grassroots vision of peace.

In Los Angeles, participants joined community activist Alice Harris for a street cleanup and a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Plain Truth Mission Family Church, where a new basketball court is currently under construction. Similar efforts spanned the continent; in Richmond, British Columbia, volunteers collaborated with the city’s Partners for Beautification initiative to clear litter near the Bridgeport SkyTrain Station.

Volunteer Chong Hwa CostaAzevedo noted that peace often begins through practical, small-scale acts of service that foster community connection. This sentiment guided efforts in Florida, where members participated in the Hillsborough River Coastal Riverwalk Cleanup and assembled relief packages for earthquake victims in Colombia and Venezuela. Meanwhile, in Dallas, the group is evaluating a long-term commitment to maintain a local freeway service road through the Keep Irving Beautiful program. These diverse projects served to translate the organization's call for global peace into localized, tangible results.
