By targeting clusters of interacting genes simultaneously, the companies aim to produce corn varieties that optimize input efficiency and boost overall yields. Mat Muller, who heads Vylor’s investment arm, Vylor Edge, noted that the platform allows for hundreds of precise edits that are validated through both controlled facility testing and field trials.
Vylor and Rainbow Crops Partner on AI-Driven Gene-Edited Corn
Following the European Union’s recent shift in gene-editing legislation, Vylor and Belgian startup Rainbow Crops are launching a partnership to engineer climate-resilient corn. The collaboration centers on using artificial intelligence and multiplex editing to develop hybrids capable of surviving extreme weather conditions like heat and flooding.
This agreement follows a €9.7 million seed financing round for Rainbow Crops, which included participation from Corteva Catalyst. This investment will transition to the Vylor Edge portfolio when Vylor officially spins off from Corteva on October 1, 2026. For Rainbow Crops CEO Giacomo Bastianelli, the partnership validates the potential of their technology to move beyond laboratory research toward tangible agricultural applications. The initiative arrives as EU regulatory environments become increasingly receptive to gene-edited crops, providing a new landscape for seed innovation.
