Melbourne-based trading provider Pepperstone has tapped former Xero engineering executive Nigel Fernandes to serve as its new Chief Technology Officer. Starting October 1, Fernandes will spearhead the firm’s transition toward an AI-native infrastructure, aiming to consolidate its proprietary technology stack as it expands into cryptocurrency and global institutional markets.
Group CEO Tamas Szabo noted that the appointment signals a strategic shift for the brokerage as it evolves into a broader fintech ecosystem. By prioritizing in-house development over third-party solutions, the company intends to offer more personalized experiences and deeper integration into digital asset markets. Fernandes will report directly to Szabo, focusing on building high-performance teams capable of supporting the firm’s aggressive expansion plans.
