Set 14 years before the events of the debut entry, E-Day focuses on the initial Locust emergence on the planet Sera. The project serves as an origin story, bringing Marcus Fenix back to the forefront of the narrative. This release marks the first major addition to the shooter series since the 2019 launch of Gears 5, signaling a renewed focus on the franchise’s core history.
Gears of War: E-Day Targets 2026 Release Window
Two decades after the original title defined the Xbox 360 era, the Gears of War franchise is returning to its roots. Microsoft confirmed at the latest Xbox Games Showcase that The Coalition’s prequel, E-Day, will arrive in 2026, marking a significant milestone for both the series and the platform’s 25th anniversary.

Alongside the development of E-Day, Microsoft is expanding the series’ reach with the August 26 release of Gears of War: Reloaded. Priced at $39.99, the remaster brings the experience to PlayStation for the first time, offering 4K resolution, 120fps support, and cross-platform capabilities. Xbox chief Phil Spencer also teased a broader 2026 lineup, which includes a new Forza installment and the potential return of a classic title, widely speculated to be a remaster of Halo CE.
