Abode Expands Perimeter Security With Weather-Resistant Sensors

Break-ins rarely begin at the front door, leaving side gates and garages as vulnerable entry points for homeowners. Abode Systems is addressing this security gap with the launch of two new outdoor-rated devices designed to monitor areas previously ignored by standard indoor smart home hardware.

The new Garage Tilt Sensor and Outdoor Contact Sensor are engineered to withstand environmental exposure while integrating with Abode’s CUE automation engine. The Garage Tilt Sensor triggers an alert when a surface shifts more than 45 degrees, making it suitable for tilt-style garage doors, attic hatches, and basement windows. It features a 10-year battery life and a tamper switch to prevent interference. For detached structures like sheds or mailboxes, the Outdoor Contact Sensor utilizes an IP66-rated enclosure to resist dust and heavy rain. Its design includes a stronger magnet and a wider activation gap to minimize false alarms common with indoor sensors placed outside.

Both devices require an Abode hub and offer a wireless range of up to 500 feet under optimal conditions. CEO Chris Carney noted that the company developed these tools to provide the home perimeter with the same level of protection typically reserved for interior spaces. The Garage Tilt Sensor is priced at $34.99, while the Outdoor Contact Sensor retails for $49.99. A bundled package containing both units is currently available on the company's website for $59.99.
